Homeland Security

Decision makers responsible for anticipating threats to their organizations are demanding reliable and innovative technology solutions that facilitate notification along the chain of command, and provide timely information to those in the field. Both governments and corporations are realizing the importance of contingency planning to allow mission-critical functions to continue even when vital services have been disrupted unexpectedly.

Since 1989, TFB has built highly customized solutions on a solid foundation of proven packaged applications. TFB applications are tailored to tough specifications. Many vital tasks that must be performed during emergency situations can be automated to improve responsiveness and provide redundant functionality to other systems. The following applications are just a few examples of technology that can support agencies charged with Homeland Security.

Reverse 911
When natural or manmade hazards occur, Reverse 911 can quickly notify residents in the appropriate geographical areas by phone, fax, pager, or email. Integration to GIS and rules based dialing ensure the most immediately affected areas are notified first. Reporting indicates those residents that responded overtly to notification and those who did not.

Multiple agencies, from law enforcement to public works, can share the system for numerous applications:

  • Flood
  • Tornado
  • Mudslides
  • Hurricane
  • Road Closures
  • Bomb Threats
  • Gas Leaks
  • Toxic Materials Hazards
  • Derailments
  • Police cordons

Reverse 911 can be tailored to your specific requirements, with remote access options available to authorized personnel. Just as importantly, Reverse 911 can be used with other products and solutions, from TFB or other vendors, to make it an integral part of your total routing, auto attendant, and computer-telephony environment.

Emergency Notification
With responsibility for homeland security now shared at every level of government, first responders are turning to innovative technology as an important element of emergency preparedness. The TFB Emergency Notification system uses Automated Outbound dialing to provide crucial, tiered notification to key personnel in the event of a regional emergency. Contact information from your data environment can be used to drive outbound notification. TFB has implemented Emergency Outbound Notification for mission-critical systems such as natural gas pipelines. When Transwestern pipeline needed a backup notification system, they turned to the TFB solution. TFB engineers customized the notification protocols to fit the requirements set forth by Transwestern. Enron and Northern Natural Gas use TFB Emergency Notification as an integrated part their mission- critical alert systems.

Command Center Automation
Organizations that maintain remote crisis centers can benefit from automating the handling of inbound calls and helping to ensure the most urgent calls get to the right people first. Setting up the right systems can ensure optimal utilization of available manpower. Solutions include the following features.

  • Informational Messages - Information can change quickly in an evolving crisis, and messages in the TFB system can be recorded and rerecorded on the fly. Message playback can also be driven by other systems. Through integration to your database, the TFB solution can make decisions about message playback as your data changes. Many inquiries can be handled by playing prerecorded messages to callers.
  • VIP Call Routing - The caller ID (ANI) of important personnel can be used to automatically route them to designated groups and to up their priority in queue as appropriate. With high inbound call volume, it can be crucial for important personnel to get through first and fast. Touch tone menus and secure call-in access by password can also be used to permit only those authorized to hear sensitive information or get through to designated departments.
  • Call Routing by Geography - With a deluge of callers looking for information, the system can prioritize callers so those from the most affected regions get through first. TFB routing solutions can sort through callers, prioritize those from designated areas and send them to the right department and group.
